The Surrendered Pup Whose Eyes Were Filled With Sorrow Discovers Joy In Her Foster Home
When we welcome a pup into our home, we make a commitment to them to stay by their side for better or worse.
Sadly, some dog owners fail to love and support their canines when they need it the most.
Peanut Butter felt rejected by her family in the most difficult period of her life.
Her owner surrendered her to Alton, IL Animal Care and Control after she survived a terrible dog attack. Peanut Butter’s family didn’t want to tend to her injuries.
Deeply traumatized, Peanut Butter was transported to Metro East Humane Society (MEHS) in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Receiving Help
The pup was taken to the clinic.
While the vet team was examining her on the surgery table and determining the extent of her injuries, Peanut Butter kept her head bent.
Her eyes were filled with tears. The pup was still in shock.
“She was traumatized and in total shock when she came in after going through all of that. She was practically catatonic on the surgery table during her initial clean-up and exam….” Mady O’Reilly, a volunteer and foster carer at MEHS told Newsweek.
The doggo avoided making eye contact with the rescuers.
The doctor and the medical staff were deeply sad to see Peanut Butter so heartbroken. The good humans tried comforting her, but the pup was unresponsive.
The staffers cleaned the pup’s wounds and gave her immediate medical attention.
The dog’s right foot was injured. The multiple puncture wounds that she sustained on her neck caused some swelling, and her choke neck became stuck.
After the rescuers took Peanut Butter to her kennel, they removed her choke neck with bolt cutters.
The doggo couldn’t hide her sadness and heartbreak.
Instead of being at home with her owner, Peanut Butter was hiding in the corner of her kennel. She was overwhelmed by the noise of the shelter.
Sweet Life In Foster Home
O’Reilly couldn’t stand watching her turn into a depressed dog, so the giant-hearted woman brought Peanut Butter home to foster her.
She and her family gave the doggo time to decompress.
O’Reilly couldn’t help crying happy tears after she saw Peanut Butter sleeping soundly in her bed with a smile on her face.
“…She had the cutest snores from her little gargoyle snout, and I cried happy tears to see her so relaxed. I literally couldn’t stop looking at her,” O’Reilly added.
O’Reilly stayed by her side. She pampered the pup with care and gained her trust.
After Peanut Butter felt more relaxed, her foster mom introduced her to their other dogs. Little by little, she started playing with her furry foster siblings and enjoying their company.
Love Changes Everything
At first, the pup was scared of Jonathan, O’Reilly’s partner, but he eventually succeeded in winning her heart.
Thanks to the selfless love and unwavering support of her foster family, the canine managed to overcome her trauma.
Peanut Butter looked like a completely different dog. Her face lit up with happiness, and she began rolling in the grass and wagging her tail.
A young family who had two young children met Peanut Butter and they fell head over heels in love with her. They knew right away that they would adopt her and make her the happiest dog on Earth.
Peanut Butter was lovely with the couple’s son.
“She was so gentle and sweet with their son. He dumped the whole bag of treats on the cement, and she was immediately his biggest fan,” O’Reilly said.
Peanut Butter enjoys her new life, and she couldn’t be happier. She loves her little humans and her furry siblings. The canine finally found her happiness.
