Shelter’s Longest Resident Became Depressed As She Watched Everybody Ignore Her At Adoption Event
Animal shelters really do try their best to help each and every fur baby in their care find a loving forever home.
One of the ways that they help introduce their residents to potential adopters is through adoption events. So, when Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) based in Orlando, Florida, organized such an event, they knew exactly who would be the main star of the show.
Among some adorable puppies and small, hypoallergenic dogs, there was a sweet pup who was their longest and oldest resident whose biggest dream was to be a part of a loving family.
Meet Baby Girl
An incredible Pittie mix named Baby Girl came into the Orlando shelter after she was rescued from a very dangerous and life-threatening situation.
“[S]omeone watched a timid dog try and cross a busy interstate. They were able to stop the dog and get her inside their car, possibly saving her life,” OCAS wrote on Facebook.
As soon as they managed to catch her, Baby Girl’s rescuer immediately rushed her to the OCAS’s headquarters, where she received the most heartwarming welcome party ever.
After Baby Girl settled into her new home, she met the OCAS vet team who gave her a thorough medical examination.
Not only did her test results prove that she was a healthy 9-year-old girl, but she also showed everybody how lovable she was.
“She is sweet and gentle with people and has shared her space with other dogs. We don’t know anything about her past life or how long she was a stray. But we do know one thing: [S]he deserves better than spending her senior years inside our kennels,” OCAS wrote on Facebook.
Foster Home
Even though the determined staff was doing their best to find a loving home for this sweet girl, they decided that, in the meantime, a foster home would help Baby Girl relax and decompress.
Luckily for them, one of their volunteers, Su Morrison, had fallen head over heels for Baby Girl and was more than happy to take her in as her foster baby.
Spending time in her new home did wonders for this adorable pup. Stepping away from all of those loud noises in her kennel and settling into a warm, loving home allowed Baby Girl to completely come out of her shell, showing her foster parents just how lovable she truly was.
“Having Baby in our home … it’s a pleasure. The longer she stays, the more we see what an absolute goofball she is. She is such a happy girl,” Morrison wrote to OCAS, later shared on Facebook.
Another Try
Even though she felt quite comfortable at her foster’s, Baby Girl still refused to give up on her dreams of finding her forever home.
So, when it finally came time to hold their adoption event, the OCAS made sure to place her right in the middle of it, hoping that a loving hooman would finally notice her and take her home.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. At the event, nobody even stopped by her kennel to say hello. Everybody walked right past her, making her feel extremely depressed.
As the event ended, fifty-eight of the OCAS residents managed to find their forever home. Sadly, Baby Girl was forced to go back to her foster home feeling sadder than ever.
“No one is lining up outside for hours for this sweet girl. No one is fighting for her. No one is begging to adopt her, and it’s heartbreaking,” OCAS wrote.
Just as Baby Girl thought all hope was lost, she received the best news ever!
Good Things Come To Those Who Wait
Morrison, Baby Girl’s foster, was so taken over by her incredible presence that the thought of her leaving broke her heart into a million pieces.
In order to ensure that that never happened, Morrison decided to adopt her!
Now, Baby Girl is living out her dream, spending her days with her favorite hoomans by going on long, relaxing walks and car rides!
And she couldn’t be happier.
“Another foster fail, another happy dog,” Morrison wrote in a Facebook comment.
