When the rescuers at The Animal Pad, the rescue based in San Diego, received a text and a photo of a stray dog with a swollen face, they were surprised.

The good people rushed to the location and met the dejected pup, later named Marvel. 

When he looked at them with his beautiful green eyes filled with sorrow, the good humans’ hearts sank. 

The rescuers were committed to doing everything in their power to help him.

Rescuing Two Inseparable Friends

The kind people wished to chase away the hopelessness from Marvel’s eyes and give him a second chance at happiness. 

There was another dog, named Captain, who stayed close to Marvel, trying to cheer him up.

Captain had a Transmissible Venereal Tumor (TVT) and he needed help, too.

The giant-hearted family who fed the dogs told the rescuers that Captain and Marvel were best friends. They were always by each other’s side.

The rescuers petted the canines, reassuring them that their lives would change for the better.

They picked them up and placed them in a car. 

Marvel and Captain were confused and they didn’t know what was going on.

As the rescue team rushed the dogs to a hospital in San Diego, they kept wondering what was wrong with Marvel’s face.

Nobody knew what the cause of the dog’s facial swelling was.

“We don’t know if this is a dog bite or wound gone wrong, some sort of major infection, TVT that he contracted from his friend Captain..,” The Animal Pad wrote in an Instagram post.

The Dogs Get The Necessary Help

As soon as they arrived, Marvel was taken to the ER and Captain stayed with the hospital staff. Captain was the sweetest boi and he stole the staffers’ hearts.

The doctor examined Marvel and took an X-ray of his abscessed face.

It was determined that the pup would need to have surgery.

On April 18th, 2024, The Animal Pad shared an update about Marvel’s condition on Instagram.

“We still aren’t sure what was going on to cause this and have some cultures pending, but luckily it seems to have fully resolved! Marvel underwent surgery to remove tissue and this significantly reduced inflammation to his face and neck immediately,” the rescue wrote.

A week after he was rescued, Marvel looked completely different. The dog’s facial swelling was gone and he looked normal. His eyes radiated with newly-found hope.

Captain started receiving treatment for TVT and he was doing very well. 

The pup was in an excellent mood. He felt safe and happy that he was getting the care and love he always wanted.

Looking For A Place To Call Home

The two friends couldn’t see each other for some time after the surgery.

When the day of their reunion finally came, Marvel and Captain couldn’t contain their excitement. The doggos rushed into each other’s arms. They were jumping with joy because they were finally reunited.

They kept covering each other with hugs and kisses.

Marvel and Captain want to forget about the difficult life on the streets and focus on the future.

With their whole heart, the pups wish to find humans who would love them unconditionally and who would show them how beautiful life can be.
