Rescuer Helps A Dog Who Was Surrendered To The Shelter By His Family For Being ‘Vicious’
For many abandoned dogs, there is usually one thing that causes them a great deal of pain. It’s their fear of being left again.
It’s absolutely tragic that they can not even understand why it’s happening, but it still affects them to a great degree, and many struggle to recover completely.
When they lose their confidence, they have a really hard time adapting to new situations because they are afraid it will lead to them being abandoned again.
This poor pup was in that same situation. His family left him in a shelter in California and he found it difficult to adapt to it. Luckily for him, he has someone who can help him heal.
Rocky Kanaka Wants To Help
When Rocky Kanaka first entered Felix’s kennel, he noticed just how much this dog was suffering. Immediately, he could tell that he was afraid.
The pup constantly held back, like he was not sure what to do. His fear of abandonment made him too scared to do anything because he thought he would get hurt again.
He gave him a small treat, but the poor pup got scared and just looked away and tried not to upset Rocky. He could not understand that this man was there to help.
Rocky sat down on the floor and turned around to make Felix feel a little bit at ease in his presence.
He noticed that the pup started moving around a bit, but only after Rocky moved his bowl of water. He was not sure why he kept going after it.
Important Backstory
Regardless, Alexis, the woman who worked there, came and told him some information about Felix. Apparently, he kind of had a family somewhere in California, but they never bothered to give him a collar or microchip.
The dog’s family told Animal Control that they didn’t want him around the house because he was dangerous and vicious.
This confused Kanaka, who didn’t believe this at all based on what he had seen. Alexis continued her story with a surprising bit of insight.
She suspected that the owners lied about the dog being vicious in order to get Animal Control to act because they take calls about dangerous dogs very seriously.
While there was no real way to confirm this theory, it was a sound one, and Kanaka believed it. He was shocked by this pup’s story.
After a little while, Rocky noticed that the pup’s mood changed when he saw other dogs approaching. He seemed to like playing with other dogs, which was great news.
He even let Rocky give him some pets and cuddles. He enjoyed it a lot, and this was a really positive sign for him. For a moment, it also looked like he had a small tail wag.
A Small Step In The Right Direction
To help him relax even more, he placed a leash around him and tried to get him to make small walks around the kennel.
It worked, and he was making small baby laps, which was great. After this, Rocky was determined to get him on a dog-walking program because he thought this would be great for him.
He even managed to get a groomer’s appointment for him, which was extremely necessary. After this was done, Felix looked even more adorable.
His groomer returned him to play with other dogs in the shelter, and it was at this moment that everyone realized just how happy and sweet he was. He just needed some time and patience.
Rocky knows that this pup will eventually open up and come out of his shell, and he plans to find him a wonderful family.
While we don’t know what happens next in Felix’s story, I am confident everything will turn out great because he has Rocky looking out for him.
