Every day, we can hear various stories from the world of dogs, both sad and happy ones. This is proof that dogs are beings that go through various situations in a life that can often be very turbulent.

The course of one dog’s life did not indicate anything similar because she was adopted early by a loving family and lived happily in a warm home. However, what happened to her in one period of her life is the best proof that things can completely turn around overnight.

This mysterious period became the subject of research by the people who saved her after animal control found her as a stray in Chicago, Illinois.

Back To Where Everything Started

The employees of Animal Education and Rescue (AEAR), the animal shelter in Libertyville, Illinois, were surprised when they got a call from the police department about the stray found in North Chicago. However, they were truly shocked when they heard which dog it was. 

“The Police Department contacted us because her microchip led the officer to the original owners who did not respond to his phone call and led to us as the rescue that took the dog in,” they wrote in their July 31 Facebook post. 

Namely, it was a dog named Lola whose name used to be Greta back when she lived in the AEAR shelter in 2012 before she was adopted. 

Sandy, the AEAR founder and director, immediately went on a research mission. She spent all afternoon making phone calls and trying to figure out what happened in Lola’s life that led her to this situation. 

What she was able to find out was that her original family who adopted her from their shelter sold her to somebody else. She was given a phone number and the name of the person who bought Lola, but unfortunately, she wasn’t able to find out the whole truth. 

“The man that answered the phone said that he doesn’t know any person by that name and has not lost a dog,” Sandy wrote in a post. “I’m not so sure he’s telling the truth. It’s hard to say.”

However, this persistent woman did not want to stop on her way to finding out the truth. 

Mystery Solved

After several days of tireless research, persistence paid off. Sandy managed to find out all the crucial information about Lola’s past and finally solve the mystery. 

According to Newsweek, the couple that originally adopted Lola kept her for seven years. However, they divorced in 2020, and the husband took the dog with him for a year before giving her to another family. 

Lola stayed with that family until March 2024. However, during that time, she was constantly moving somewhere, and at one point, going to a sister of the second couple following their move. 

The woman said that Lola was behaving very strangely, leaving the house and suddenly returning after a while. Yet, what she admitted later in the conversation is crucial in this whole story. 

She said that her adult son had given Lola to a man to drop her off at a local shelter. That’s exactly how this dog ended up at North Chicago Animal Control and eventually in AEAR shelter.

Subsequently, Sandy learned another heartbreaking fact, which is that her latest family left Lola because she was too old and no one else wanted her. However, the latter was not true.

There were people who truly wanted Lola, and those were the good souls of the shelter where her life journey began while she still bore the name, Greta. 

They decided that this dog would spend her later years in happiness.

Finally Settled Down

Lola was in a terrible state when she came to the AEAR shelter, which was not a surprise considering what she’d been through. 

“Lola is also morbidly obese and is having a hard time getting around. It’s understandable, considering her weight and her age.” Sandy wrote in the post. 

Aside from that, her nails were extremely long but that was taken care of by Annie Kane, who quickly put them in order. They just needed to take her to the groomer to fix her fur so she could be the beautiful furry girl she once was.

Considering her age and health status, Sandy and the other employees were not optimistic that anyone would want to adopt her. However, a good soul, Amanda, appeared and decided to become her foster mom.

When she heard her life story, she was so moved that she decided to keep Lola for the rest of her life if she couldn’t find a forever home.

This is how this tense and mysterious story ended. Just like always, regardless of all the difficulties, thanks to good souls, it had its happiest ending.
