How many times do we hear that dogs are humans’ best friends in the world? A million, I guess. But how often can we see that friendship put into action, especially when a human’s life is on the line?

For one Pennsylvania Golden Retriever, that friendship was never in question. 

After witnessing his owner fall down a 20-foot hill in the Pittsburgh area, this heroic furry boy immediately sprang into action, realizing that his beloved owner could be in danger. 

What he did next left the entire internet dazzled, and earned him the title of “hero,” which he truly deserved!

Heroic Act

It was an ordinary day for this Golden boi and his dad when something unexpected happened. During their hike, the man accidentally slipped at one point and then fell twenty feet down a Pittsburgh hillside.

Shocked by what just happened, the man tried to figure out a way to get out of this serious situation, but to no avail.

Despite all the efforts, he couldn’t get back up after suffering what followed to be a severe hip injury. Instead, he lay motionless on the ground, unable to even call for help.

But, that’s when his amazing Golden Retriever buddy took over, and showed the true brilliance of his breed!

After realizing what was going on, the dog immediately rushed into action. He frantically ran to the neighbors and alerted them of the unfortunate situation taking place only hundreds of yards away. 

Upon arriving at the site and witnessing the man in need, the shocked people contacted Ross West View Emergency Medical Services Authority.

All that time, this Goldie refused to leave the scene until help finally arrived. He stayed true to his owner, hoping that the two would soon reunite.

The EMS workers reached the scene within minutes, stabilizing the injured man and treated him at the accident site. Then, they used a rope system to safely transport the man to the local trauma center where he was confirmed to have a severe hip injury.

The EMSA rescue released an update post, expressing their utmost gratitude to all the people involved in the rescue, including the Police Department, DPW, fire departments, and in the end, the dog.

After the rescue, this hero boi was treated with some delicious treats and a big, well-deserved bowl of water!

“A special thank you to this patient’s dog who alerted neighbors that help was needed.  The pup refused to leave the scene until the patient was safely topside and transported.  He was rewarded with some treats and big bowl of water on this hot day,” the rescue service stated in a Facebook post.

Positive Outcome

Thanks to the dog who wouldn’t give up on his best friend, everything went well.

The man was successfully treated in the center and finally reunited with his worried canine buddy.

This hero Golden Retriever’s action soon spread all over the internet, leaving thousands of people in awe. 

“And people say dogs are not smart. I think sometimes they are smarter than humans. This dog is definitely a hero,” one Facebook user wrote.

“And of course he was a Golden Retriever,” another one added.

Thanks to his selfless efforts, the dog and the man will be able to share many more happy memories together in their cozy, Pennsylvania home!
