Long-Time Shelter Dog Gets A New Start After 473 Days Of Waiting For A Chance
Canine life can sometimes be a true blessing – a warm home, a loving family, and a lot of kisses from their favorite people are everything these furry creatures need.
Unfortunately, not every dog is lucky enough to live such a happy life as many of them are forced to fend for themselves or, at best, be in a non-euthanasia shelter in which kind employees will take care of them.
One dog named Bruno found himself in a similar situation when the shelter staff from Colonial Heights Animal Control, located in Colonial Heights, Virginia, found him, his sister, and a third dog on the shelter property.
The third dog was soon adopted, but Bruno’s life, just like the life of his sister, was far from happy edning.
Heartlessly Abandoned
The shelter staff from Colonial Heights Animal Control found four-year-old Bruno and his sister, Justice, in March 2023. According to their Facebook post, these two Pit Bull mixes were abandoned outside of their facility and were never claimed.
The shelter described Bruno as the solid black Pit Bull mix who was quite nervous when they first met him. Yet, they also stated that this good boy started to come out of his shell the more they worked with him.
Although they underlined that Bruno needed longer to adapt to other dogs and that cats and small children should not be in his presence, they also emphasized Bruno’s positive side.
“Once Bruno gets to know you, he shows so much affection, he loves to be with his person, loves belly rubs and all the love,” they wrote.
As for Justice, the shelter staff wrote that “she also requires a meet and greet with any dogs in the home,” but that, at the same time, she loves to play with her toys, enjoys walking, and absolutely adores sitting next to her favorite person and being showered with kisses.
Despite all the promotion via social media, this canine brother and sister remained overlooked at the shelter for a very long time. Yet, after 473 days, when even the shelter staff started to lose hope, the light finally shone on at least one of them.
Chance For A New, Happier Life
On July 10, 2024, Colonial Heights Animal Control announced the happy news in their Facebook post. After the introduction part where they briefly described Bruno’s life story, they wrote that he was finally moving out of the shelter.
People from the non-profit rescue organization, Ring Dog Rescue, located in Richmond, Virginia, followed Bruno for a long time until they finally decided to give him a chance for a new life.
“A representative from Ring Dog Rescue saw this sweet hunks potential and reached out to a board and train facility and set up a spot for him!” the shelter wrote in the post.
Namely, the Ring Dog Rescue is an organization that focuses on saving, rehabilitating, and adopting out Pitbull-type dogs into loving homes. Since they are very successful in what they do, there is no doubt that Bruno will meet his happiest ending sooner than later.
The shelter staff also wrote in their Facebook post that the Ring Dog Rescue will take care of Bruno’s health, considering that this dog was heartworm positive and had some ACL issues.
In the end, they thanked the Ring Dog Rescue as well as all the good people who helped this dog in any way on his road to his new beginning.
“After over a year of Bruno being here, he said his goodbyes yesterday and headed to his new life! We wanted to give a huge thank you and shout out to Ring Dog Rescue for giving him this amazing opportunity to find his new life and family that he deserves,” they wrote.
We also wish Bruno the best of luck in his new life, just like his sister, who we hope will have a happy ending soon.
