Heroic Hikers Carried Abandoned German Shepherd From The Top Of LA Trail 3 Miles Down
When someone has a big heart, regardless of the circumstances and all the difficulties, he will find a way to do a good deed.
A passionate hiker, Omar, found a hiking group from Los Angeles, California, known as The 5 AM CREW, about one and a half years ago. During that period, these amazing people conquered various mountain peaks in the early morning hours, experiencing all kinds of things.
However, nothing can compare to what happened to them on August 20, 2024, when they arrived at the summit of a Los Angeles trail. Then, these amazing hikers showed that there are still people in this world whose hearts are as big as a mountain.
One-Of-A-Kind Rescue Mission
When these people reached the top of Griffith Park, in Los Angeles, California, they were happy that they would finally get some rest before heading back down the trail.
However, their plans suddenly changed when they saw a dog lying motionless nearby. As soon as they got a little closer, the hikers realized that it was a German Shepherd who had neither a leash nor a collar, but only a bottle of water next to him.
They didn’t know how this dog ended up in that place, but they knew they had to help him. Because they saw that he was terrified, Omar and his crew knew that it wouldn’t be an easy job. Yet, they managed to come up with an effective rescue plan.
After a fanny pack and a jump rope didn’t help them and after they couldn’t carry him for more than a few seconds due to his heavy weight, they only had a tarp left, on which one of the hikers, named Daniel Martinez, was doing push-ups.
They gently put the dog on the tarp, surrounded him, and each of them grabbed his end of the tarp, picked it up, and began to carry him toward the beginning of the trail.
The usual time to get there is 45 minutes, but with Hiker, as they named him, it took them at least an hour. Although it was difficult for them, they enjoyed seeing him safe and sound in the tarp.
“He looked like a sultan,” Omar said in his interview for Newsweek. “And he was happy as a clam by the time we got down.”
Among other things, Omar also recorded this one-of-a-kind rescue mission and shared the video on Instagram via the crew’s account, @the.5amcrew.
When they finally arrived at their desired destination, Hiker was still a bit tense. However, after they fed him and gave him water, he realized that these good people only wanted good for him so he finally relaxed.
“They Chose Each Other”
After Hiker was completely relaxed and the members carrying him had rested, they transferred him to Daniel’s car. This crew member immediately took him to the vet, where they checked his health and whether he had a microchip.
Hiker’s health was stable, but unfortunately, they did not find a microchip. However, Daniel, the person whose tarp was used to save Hiker, offered to take this German Shepherd home with him.
Of course, if someone calls and says that it is his dog, he will hand him over to them, but before that, they will conduct a vetting process to ensure it’s the correct owner. Until then, Hiker will live in Daniel’s home.
A few days have passed and no one has responded. However, according to Omar, Hiker is doing great – he became a full member of their crew and even once went hiking with them.
As for his new home and his relationship with Daniel, it’s an understatement to say that everything works perfectly.
“It almost seems like they chose each other,” Omar happily concluded.
