Heartbroken Pup Can’t Stand To Watch A Blind Chicken Being Bullied So She Becomes Her Bodyguard
Imagine if you had a dragon following you around wherever you went, making sure that you were safe at all costs. Sounds cool, doesn’t it?
Well, Mary Poppins has something very similar.
And no, I’m not talking about the Mary Poppins from the movies. I’m actually referring to Mary, the Chicken.
As she walks around her little kingdom, a.k.a., her garden, Mary has a loyal protector who treats her like the queen she is – Harper!
Origin Stories
Harper, the dog, along with her sister, found their way into Emilie’s loving home after she was informed that the two had nowhere to go.
They both had a pretty big flea problem but nothing that couldn’t be handled with some love and attention. And, since Emilie needed a couple of good livestock guard dogs, she was happy to take them in.
Around the same time, Emilie received a phone call regarding a blind chicken. The hooman, who owned a farm and an animal sanctuary, knew a lot about how to care for blind animals, so she agreed to take the chicken.
Naming the chicken Mary Poppins, Emilie had no idea that two of her rescues would become inseparable.
A Duo Like No Other
Unfortunately, Mary didn’t really get along with the other animals on the farm. She ended up being bullied quite a lot, making her feel super sad and depressed.
As soon as Emilie noticed this, she decided to bring her into the house where she could keep a closer eye on her. However, she wasn’t the only one who started to worry about Mary.
Harper took on her guard-dog role very seriously so she began being Mary’s personal bodyguard!
“Mary’s helpless to predators so I was staying with her out in the dirt. And then I noticed that Harper just wasn’t leaving. It was like two to three hours of them just both like stuck in the same place not moving, having the best time,” Emilie told Cuddle Buddies.
Ever since, Harper would follow Mary wherever she went, making sure she kept herself out of trouble.
Of course, when she realized that she had a big dog on her side, Mary became invincible.
Whenever the two would be hanging outside, Harper would plop onto the ground, always leaving some space for her best friend. And, she wouldn’t move until Mary decided it was time to go.
Seeing how loving Harper is toward the chick fills Emilie’s heart with joy.
“It fills my heart just to see them so content together. I’m just so grateful for it. And I think with Mary in particular I’m just grateful for Harper to let her world grow a little bit and give her the opportunity to hang out and be safe,” she concluded.Mary is finally able to live a normal life, exploring everything and anything her heart desires.
And, nobody dares to touch her with her gentle beast by her side!
