All Dixie had ever wanted was a home and a human to love.

Her dream finally came true in 2019 when she was adopted from a New Jersey shelter into a loving family. Dixie enjoyed a wonderful life for three full years. She went for walks, chased new adventures, and had a blast with her pawrents.

Sadly, her dream came to an end in 2022, and she once again found herself in a shelter. The reason for her unfortunate return left her caregivers heartbroken.

Dixie Went Full Circle In Just Three Years

After being adopted from the Associated Humane Popcorn Park Shelter, New Jersey, this sweet doggo girl had no trouble adapting to a new life. That was until her owner was forced to leave her with a friend for a while, which changed Dixie’s whole life for the worse.

During her stay there, Dixie had a misfortunate altercation with another pet. Sadly, this event resulted in her being returned once again to the same shelter from which she was adopted.

“She was left with a friend temporarily and unfortunately, had an altercation with the resident pet so after three years, she was returned to us,” the shelter wrote on Facebook.

To make things even more heartbreaking, Dixie’s life journey came full circle in just three years. 

As a dog born in AHPPS, she had to go back to her roots and start all over, only now, she wasn’t a puppy seeking her first opportunity, but a dog with a significantly reduced chance of finding a new home.

The New Jersey shelter explained that Dixie needed to be the only pet, as she does not get along with other dogs. But, other than that, this lovebug with the biggest smile is practically flawless!

“Dixie is perfect in every way: housebroken, well-behaved, gentle, affectionate, good on a leash, playful, and so loyal, loving, and very sweet.  She continues to be overlooked due to her need for a pet-free home,” they added.

With every new day, Dixie’s chances of finding a new home were getting lower, until, one day, everything changed – once again!

Finally, The Perfect Family

A couple seeking another dog after mourning the loss of their pet came to one of the AHPPS events, and the rest, as they say, is history!

They instantly formed a bond with Dixie, who seemed like the perfect pet for them. The three fell for each other in a heartbeat, making the decision a lot easier than they thought. 

“They all hit it off like it was meant to be and finally, Dixie has the home of her dreams!  As you can see in her pictures, she’s enjoying her new toys, napping in a comfy bed, and just relaxing in a home of her very own,” the shelter wrote in an update post.

Just like that, Dixie found her forever family – the one that she had been dreaming of for exactly one year and eight months.

After all those nights in a tiny kennel waiting for an opportunity, it is safe to say this resilient girl is finally at home. 

Her new owners keep the shelter posted with Dixie’s everyday activities. She’s already in love with her new toys, her brand-new dog bed, and a comfy couch. 

Most of all, Dixie doesn’t take her big, haunting smile off her face, which represents a vivid image that she couldn’t be happier. And, that’s pretty much everything that her caregivers were hoping for!
