Sweet Pup Who Was Locked Up In A Cage Her Whole Life Can’t Stop Smiling When She Is Finally Free
It’s heartbreaking to think about all the dogs who have been mistreated their whole life instead of being loved without limits.
Trixie always had a lot of love to give, but sadly, she didn’t have humans who were worthy of her love.
The doggo was robbed of the chance to be happy because her heartless owners locked her in a cage.
Despite being neglected, the pup didn’t let her spirit wither away. She kept dreaming about her freedom, and about the day she would finally get the chance to experience love.
When her owners moved out without her, Trixie’s heart soared with hope that good humans would find her and set her free.
Freedom At Last
Fortunately, the rescuers found Trixie and set her free.
Heartland Animal Shelter, located in Illinois, took her under their care.
When the staffers saw her for the first time, they were sad to see the terrible condition she was in.
Trixie was neglected. The pooch was missing fur and she had duck paws because she was caged for a long time.
Since she was stressed and reactive toward other dogs, it became clear that Trixie would have a hard time living in the shelter. She needed to find her own home as soon as possible.
At the time, David Nulud wanted to surprise his girlfriend, Nikolai Therese, by adopting their first dog on her birthday.
While scrolling through the shelters’ pages, he found Trixie and fell in love.
He brought her home and she immediately clicked with her new mom. Both Therese and Nulud wished to make Trixie happy, so they gave her a lot of love.
Trixie felt relieved to leave her kennel and finally be free.
“The first few days when we got her home it felt like she just took a deep breath and just decompressed. She just took a big sigh of relief that she was finally somewhere safe. She was home,” Nulud told GeoBeats Animals.
Trixie’s family hand-fed her and treated her affectionately. They wished to gain her trust and help her become a dog who enjoys life.
The pup’s parents invested time in training her, helping her overcome her anxiety and decrease her reactivity to other dogs.
Getting All The Love She Deserved
Owing to their patience and the immense love they gave her, Trixie gradually started making progress and realizing that she was free.
A beautiful smile began adorning her face. She was ready to turn over a new page.
The canine craved her parents’ loving touch, and she always wanted to be near them. She cuddled with them, and she absorbed all their love.
Trixie began enjoying her life. The pooch loved sunbathing in the garden and sleeping blissfully in her new home.
Her reactivity to other canines has reduced considerably.
Trixie’s parents were overjoyed when she finally became the dog that she was always supposed to be.
Trixie’s Dream Life
Nulud and Therese are smitten with the canine and the loving way the pup treats their baby. They credit Trixie for making them better parents to their son.
“Our baby’s 4 and 1/2 months old and Trixie has been amazing with him. She’s made us better human beings in a way she’s made us better parents because she’s shown us how to care for her and we consider her our daughter,” Nulud added.
Despite the progress she has made, Trixie sometimes gets triggered by loud noises
She has been through a lot in her life, and yet, she is gentle and loving toward everyone she meets.
Her parents consider themselves lucky to have Trixie in their life.
“It was one of the best decisions we ever made. She wasn’t the perfect dog but she was perfect for us,” Therese wrote in a Facebook post.
Trixie lives her dream life in Illinois. The pup often shares updates about her everyday activities on her Instagram account, and she advocates for shelter dogs, helping them find a home.
