Rescuers Were In Disbelief When They Found This Sweet Dog Tied To A Picnic Table
Being an animal rescuer means always being ready for the most unexpected things. You just never know when your new mission is about to unfold.
One day, the dedicated team of Stray Rescue of St. Louis, led by Donna Lochmann, rushed to the streets to help dogs in need before a big rainstorm, only to discover something truly shocking.
During one of their outings in a local park, the volunteers spotted a helpless creature peeking from behind picnic benches. When they came a little closer, their hearts shattered into a million pieces…
Peeking Behind The Benches
A teeny, tiny dog stared at them shyly from behind the benches. As they approached him, the team realized his owners had tied him to a picnic table and probably abandoned him there.
No one exactly knows how long he had to endure being without any food or water, but the pup was evidently in bad shape.
He looked so afraid and traumatized after what happened to be the worst experience of his life. Being abandoned by the people you love is never easy, and this sad pup was no exception.
For things to be even worse, the dog’s fur was completely covered in dog ringworms.
“It rained on and off this week, some thunderstorms mixed in, here in St. Louis. This little puppy was tied up and left at a park, and he’s COVERED in ringworm,” the rescue wrote in a Facebook post.
At first, the puppy kept his distance and barked loudly in fear. He was so terrified that he barked his soul out, trying to scare off the rescuers.
Luckily, it didn’t take long for the team to befriend him with kind words and some treats. They slowly put a leash around his neck and took him to the car, from where his new life chapter began.
“He was so brave when we first approached, but then as soon as we got in the Jeep he curled up on Donna’s lap and let out a deep sigh – that sigh said so much,” SRSL added.
He instantly transformed into the sweetest lovebug. Knowing that he was finally safe, the pup couldn’t be more grateful.
Off To A New Start
Aside from ringworms, the pup was not diagnosed with any other issues. Upon arriving at SRSL headquarters, the pup, later named Wilbur, was prescribed with medicated baths.
“He’ll get medicated baths and will be ready for foster in just a few short days. He’ll never have to be lonely or muster up that much bravery ever again,” the rescue stated.
He was so relieved to be away from that park, all alone in the rain. He still needed some time to fully acclimate to the new environment, but Wilbur was evidently happy.
When he’s ready, Wilbur will embark upon a new journey in a foster home, hoping to soon find the family that suits him the best.
