Fearful Wolf Dog Reunites With His Long-Lost Brother And Undergoes Incredible Transformation
Providing a safe haven for wolf dogs isn’t an easy job. It takes a lot of patience and understanding, and, most of all, it takes a lot of knowledge. Yet Kim, of Arctic Fox Daily Wildlife Rescue, New York, does it with perfection!
In all her years providing these magnificent canines with a home, Kim put lots of love and dedication into her work despite the challenges. Taking care of Jacob was definitely one of the biggest!
Saved from an abusive breeder, Jacob had a hard time adapting to new circumstances, but all that was about to change within months.
Jacob Had A Rough Past
When he was pulled from an abusive home in Tennessee, Jacob was a severely traumatized wolf dog. He was extremely hard to interact with, even with all the treats and a safe indoor environment Kim provided him with.
He was so scared and insecure that he’d even rip all the pillows and break every blind in her house.
However, all that changed when Kim decided to place him among her other rescue wolf dogs in an outdoor sanctuary.
He immediately adapted to the pack and joined the “beautiful chaos,” as Kim loves to describe her canines.
“Jacob may not be a fan of me, but that’s okay – I’m just so excited about how good of physical shape he’s in now, and given his traumatic start to life, I just feel blessed to be able to provide this beautiful boy a sanctuary setting to reside in,” Kim wrote on Facebook.
Even though he still wanted nothing to do with Kim, he fell in love with her little girl, Ella. It was as if Ella was the only person he wasn’t afraid of, and instead, enjoyed her presence a lot!
“I’m the one who does all the hard stuff and raises them and keeps them alive. And she gets all the love,” Kim told The Dodo.
Jacob became extremely gentle with taking treats from Ella’s hand and he enjoyed spending time in the spacious yard so much!
Completely Different Dog After Reunion
Jacob still had a long way to go, and Kim knew it. But, when she got a surprising call from her friend, Molly, who works at Walking Wild Rescue, Ohio, she immediately stopped in her tracks! This was it. This is the call she’d been waiting for!
Molly informed Kim about Jacob’s sibling, Vardan, asking if she would be able to take him in, and Kim didn’t think twice.
Kim loved the idea of reuniting the long-lost brothers, thinking that this event would somehow contribute to Jacob’s socialization. And, boi, was she right!
When she first brought Vardan into a little secluded enclosure within her wolf-dog yard, she witnessed a heartwarming scene through her security camera. Jacob slowly approached and sniffed his brother, and then he gently touched him with a paw.
He definitely recognized him! And now, after all this time, they were together – again!
This was a breakthrough moment for everyone, as of that moment – Jacob was never the same.
Just weeks later, he started to come out of his shell.
“A couple of weeks after Vardan arrived, Jacob actually took food from me through the fence for the first time ever. Vardan is helping bring Jacob out of his shell even more,” says Kim.
The brothers surprised Kim and her entire family. It was truly rewarding to see how they interacted and enjoyed being with each other. But most of all, seeing Jacob finally transform was precious!
“Knowing the trauma that these boys went through at such a young age, and now being able to see them confidently stand side-by-side as they physically and mentally grow into the handsome, strong, high-content wolfdogs that they were meant to be… together… it’s amazing,” Kim wrote in a Facebook post.
Kim couldn’t be happier about the two of them. She’ll continue to provide Jacob and Vardan with a home, and these two big bois will surely have plenty of time and space to take on exciting adventures together.
Thank you for your amazing work, Kim!
